Trip to Gods Own Country - Kerala - Part 1 (Bangalore to Munar via Yercaud)

Bangalore to Munar is approx 590km via salem - Dindigul - Teni or 740 km via salem - coimbotore - Kochi and there is also a 3rd route via udumulpet. We decided to take the route via Dindigul and return take the Kochi route on our return as this would give us the option to see both the sides of the Munar Ghats. As the distance was over 500km we decided to take a break in between and stay the night in Yercaud. Our day 1 was Bangalore to Yercaud - Yercaud is small hill station (45oo feet above msl) 30 + km from Salem which meant we were driving around 235km from Banglaore. The road out of bangalore is horrible even though it was a weekend and took me 2 hours before i hit the high way were I could press the gas. After that it was brilliant and yercaud was surprising cooler than normal because of the depression in the Arabian sea. We had a good night stay in Yercaud and decide to start early next day as we had to cover approx 390km. The 50km stretch from Salem to Namakal the roads were not good but once we crossed Namakal the roads were brilliant, weather was great and felt like i was in heaven. The stertch from Dindigul to Teni is very green and then when we started the climb to Munar via Bodi Mett it was misty (cloudy) with high velocity winds and simpy out of the world. The ghat section from Bodi mett to Munar was wonderful, in the begining it was rocky and land slide in a few places. The mountains are brilliant and you really admire Gods creation. As we went closer to Munar it got greener and when we reached Munar we were spell bound, the tea estates and mountains were looking as if we were looking at some framed pictures or painting. You need to be there and experience it, photo don't tell the real story but i am posting a few as reference.

Amazing South India

The southern part of India, the peninsular India offers amazing locales. Let me cover in this post places that you can travel to from Bangalore. Bangalore (Bangaluru) is the capital of Karnataka and is 3000 ft asl and close to the western ghats thus offering enormous choice of places to ride to and aboveall the weather 9 months of the year is brilliant for riders.

Places close to Bangalore and perfect weekend getaways -

Mysore , Coorg , Nandi hills, Bheemeshwari, BR hills, Kemmangundi, Ooty and many more.

And for those who wish to take a longer break they could ride out from Bangalore to Goa or Bangalore to Kerala.

I shall cover in my next post Bangalore to Goa.

Unexplored India

India is an amazing and a misterious country, probably one of the least explored. India is the seventh largest nation in size and offers various options for travellers like beaches, forest, mountains, desert. India also can boast of one of the largest rail network and road networks criss crossing the length and breadth of the nation, it even connects villages as high as 18000+ ft above sea level (the highest motorable road in the world). Despite such extensive connectivity and affordable fares, it does not see enough tourist and most travellers get stuck to the popular destinations and never discover the real India.
